Nice guy Rob and his lovely Texan wife Randi wanted a lifestyle change in order to allow Rob more time to spend more time with his young family. Following the success of their hugely popular weekend run market stall, Rob decided to ditch his coal mining career to follow his food truck dream. Offering an authentic Texan BBQ experience, Smokin Hot ‘n Saucy is soon to hit the streets of Newcastle in a bright red, former Salvation Army youth charity bus.
(Good to know that it’ll still be doing some good in its new life too, feeding the hungry hordes of Newcastle some good ol’ fashioned Texan goodness!).
The Van Demons crew gutted the bus, fitting it out with a full commercial kitchen and allowing room for Rob’s 500kg home made smoker for him to fit upon his return to Newcastle. The Smokin Hot ‘n Saucy food bus has two servery windows, a side opening to allow for ventilation for the smoker and a rear opening allowing the smoker to be removed and reinstalled if need be.
Many moons ago in Texas, Randi’s father taught Rob the art of smoking. Since then Rob has perfected his technique, winning a multitude of awards competing in the Australian Low & Slow BBQ Circuit.
Rob plans to share his love of Texan BBQ with the folk of Newcastle in the council’s designated food truck locations, as well as functions and events.
